Women
only services lobby meeting
October 8th 2.00 -4.00 pm
Do we need well funded women only health and social services? If you
think we do, please come to discuss the creation of a lobby group about
this issue.
Women's Health Action are interested in creating a networking lobby
group that will be activated whenever there is an opportunity to write
submissions to health, social services, local or national government,
to advocate for women only services.
These could be, for example:
- Women only inpatient
wards in psychiatric hospitals
- Women only residential
services (drug and alcohol or mental health) where women can go with
all of their children
- Women only boarding
houses
- Maternal mental
health services
- Services for
migrant women.
The inaugural meeting
will gauge interest and develop a contact list/structure, so that we
can keep in touch on the issues and opportunities to lobby when appropriate.
There will not be regular meetings!!! The purpose of the group is to
network on the issues and work together to lobby for change when the
opportunities arise - using our collective time and ideas, rather than
battling away on our own. We believe that if a number of us work together
on this issue it is more likely to appear on funding agendas and government
priority lists.
Women are becoming increasingly marginalised in services and have lost
or are losing many of the gains that were made in recognition of gender
specific needs. Let's begin to move forward again ö together.
