Health strategies outline the government goals and aspirations for health care in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The first and overarching strategy is the NZ Health Strategy released in 2001.

There are many subsequent and supplementary strategies including He Korowai Oranga (Maori health); Healthy Action, Healthy Eatin; Breastfeeding Action Plan; Primary Health Care. The full list can be found here.

In 2007/2008, the Ministry of Health refined the strategy by selecting 10 health targets as priority areas for change and improvement. Information and reports on progress towards the targets is available here.

In The New Zealand Health Strategy sets the platform for the Government's action on health.  The Strategy provides the framework within which District Health Boards and other organisations across the health sector operate; highlighting the priorities the Government considers to be most important.  The Health Strategy sits alongside the New Zealand Disability Strategy (2001).
