Information for pregnant and breastfeeding employees

The NZ Ministry of Health states that the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding are fundamental to achieving optimum health for the nation. Breastfeeding is important for the physical health of mothers and infants and there is strong evidence to show that breastfeeding and appropriate infant feeding contributes to the social and emotional wellbeing o of infants, mothers and families. (WHO 2003)

Women's Health Action is working on making environments breastfeeding friendly to enable mothers to continue breastfeeding when in paid employment or studying. We are currently creating a dedicated website for breastfeeding friendly workplaces (www.bfw.org.nz) This site will provide comprehensive information and resources for employers and employees about creating Breastfeeding Friendly Workplaces. The site will be launched in early June. In the meantime see the below links and for more information contact Women's Health Action Trust at info@bfw.org.nz  or call 09 520 5295
