Women’s Health Action is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board!

We’re seeking someone who can help guide the financial sustainability of our organisation during a period of change and support our work to diversify income sources. This is a voluntary governance role, with a small honorarium offered in recognition of your contribution.

Women’s Health Action (WHA) is a national charitable trust founded in 1984. Our mission is to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of women and whānau across Aotearoa. We work in partnership with consumers, whānau, hapū, iwi, health professionals, and community providers across the health, education, justice, and social sectors.

We advocate for timely access to quality, safe, and equitable healthcare. Our work includes delivering evidence-based health information and initiatives and connecting with diverse communities to understand the real-time needs of those accessing and delivering care.

About the Treasurer Role

This role is key to ensuring WHA’s financial health and sustainability. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing appropriate financial management across the organisation
  • Advising the Board on income, expenditure, investments, and financial risk
  • Presenting financial reports at Board meetings (in collaboration with the General Manager)
  • Supporting audit preparation and Tier 3 Charities reporting
  • Reviewing budgets and contributing to medium- and long-term finance strategies
  • Occasionally approving payments and liaising with banking partners

Time Commitment

  • Six Board meetings per year (via Zoom), approx. 2 hours each
  • Regular check-ins with the General Manager and Bookkeeper
  • Ad hoc input into financial policies and oversight between meetings

Ideal Applicant: We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a fully qualified Chartered Accountant or has equivalent experience
  • Has strong skills in treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Brings experience in financial governance, ideally in the Not-for-Profit sector
  • Has an eye for detail and is well organised
  • Can commit regular time to maintaining financial oversight
  • Aligns with WHA’s kaupapa and values
