The Big Latch On 2026

The Big Latch On 2026 took place from 27–29 March across Aotearoa, bringing together whānau to connect, access support, and celebrate infant feeding journeys.

This year, 39 events took place across the motu, with a total of 3,782 attendees (parents, pēpi and kaimahi) taking part across both in-person and virtual events. The strong uptake of virtual events highlights the ongoing importance of accessible and flexible support options for whānau unable to attend in person due to geography, weather events, or personal circumstances. The largest event this year welcomed a record 186 attendees.

Across the country, hosts created warm, welcoming, and non-judgemental spaces for parents and whānau to connect and a key focus for 2026 was inclusivity. While the Big Latch On has its origins in celebrating and normalising breastfeeding, this year continued an intentional emphasis on welcoming all whānau, regardless of how they feed their pēpi — including breastfeeding, chestfeeding, mixed feeding, formula feeding, tube-feeding, expressing or any other form of safe infant feeding.

The Big Latch On 2026 focused on community, connection and celebration of all infant feeding journeys and was one of the largest attended events since pre-COVID times.

The Big Latch On 2026 was also the first year that had both English and full Te Reo Māori translated posters available nationally.
