About the event

Join other breastfeeding parents and supporters for a fun event at locations throughout Aotearoa New Zealand! Building community support, one latch at a time.

Event description

The Big Latch On is an annual event where parents gather together at registered venues across Aotearoa to breastfeed and offer peer support to other breastfeeding mama in their community. The Big Latch On takes place over three days – Friday, Saturday and Sunday in April each year. Previously, the event was held during World Breastfeeding Week in August, but in 2023 we made the shift to April to avoid running the event at the peak of the cold and flu season in winter. We will still continue to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week in August in other ways.

To find out when the next Big Latch On is visit www.blo.org.nz and our Facebook page for updates. You can also read about the history of the Big Latch On in our archives.

If you can’t attend a venue then join in with the #Brelfie (breastfeeding selfie) campaign! The selfie initiative was created to provide breastfeeding parents who cannot attend a Big Latch On event the chance to participate online and encourage them to connect with other breastfeeding mums via social media sites such as Facebook. Post your breastfeeding selfie to your social media and use the hashtag #BigLatchOnNZ #Brelfie

Who can come

Family, whānau, friends and breastfeeding supporters are all welcome to attend alongside breastfeeding parents and children.
